Redding Man Arrested in Napa on Suspicion of Attempted Murder in Palo Cedro Hit-and-Run

NAPA: A 47-year-old Redding man was arrested in the city of Napa on Monday on suspicion of attempted murder and felony hit-and-run, one day after Shasta County deputies say a man was intentionally struck by a vehicle at Palo Cedro Park.
Dustin Alan Mingarelli was located and arrested Monday morning with assistance from the Napa County Sheriff’s Office and the Napa Police Department, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office said. He was booked into Napa County Jail, where he was being held without bail pending extradition to Shasta County.

Deputies responded to Palo Cedro Park at approximately 1:56 p.m. Sunday after receiving multiple reports that an adult male had been intentionally struck by a vehicle at a high rate of speed, according to the sheriff’s office. Witnesses identified Mingarelli as the driver, and he fled the area in his vehicle before deputies arrived.
Witnesses identified the driver, who fled before deputies arrived; an overnight manhunt ended with the arrest in Napa.
The man who was struck was identified as Carlos Zapata. He had been helping take down the Palo Cedro Rodeo Association’s premier rodeo event when the incident occurred. First responders took him to a local hospital, where he remained on Monday.

Deputies put out a be-on-the-lookout alert to neighboring agencies and secured an arrest warrant on charges of attempted murder and hit-and-run, the sheriff’s office said. The investigation remained ongoing Monday, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.
